Abortion is a touchy topic depending on who you talk to. There are those who are pro-life and those, who believe every child deserves a shot at life, and those who are pro-choice, believing that the people who created the fetus get to determine whether the child is born or not. The laws pertaining to abortion vary from state to state. In Georgia, abortions performed after the first trimester are illegal unless done in a licensed medical facility. Kenlissa Jones is facing murder charges for taking an abortion pill there.

Jones, 23, purchased the drug, Cytotec from Canada. She did so in order to induce an  on the fetus living inside of her.  Five and a half months into the pregnancy, Jones delivered the baby on the way to the hospital. The baby boy was alive upon delivery, but died about a half an hour after Jones arrived at the hospital.

Under Georgia law, Jones has been charged with malice murder and possession of a dangerous drug for the abortion. She was being held at the Dougherty County Jail without bond. Jones was mother to one 2-year-old boy, who is now in the custody of his uncle Rico Riggins and his wife. According to The Root,  Riggins said, “At that point we didn’t even know she was pregnant, and so my first real reaction was like, ‘Why she keeping it away from us?'” He continued, “We lost what would have been a nephew for me. And everything. And then my sister. We’re coping the best we can. We’re hoping we get a lot of prayers. … I don’t want anyone to be mad or upset with my family. At the end of the day, they are doing the best we can.”
