Drake was set to be the headliner for The Governors Ball of 2015 last weekend. Governors Ball is New York’s version of Coachella, which takes place in New York City on Randall’s Island. It is a music festival with a feel good type of vibe. He did a series of songs from past albums and his current album, ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.’ Some critics I came across said that he had a slow start during his performance. Personally, if I go to a concert, I would want the artist to save the best for last. That always leaves me feeling like a made a good investment.
From what I can see, the crowd was very receptive to Drake’s medley of hits. They sang along and had their camera phones out to film him. I think it was a great performance. I could see he wanted to connect with his fans. He had bad reviews for his performances in California, so I take it that he did not want to fail at such a big event. I especially liked when he did ‘Energy’, he most certainly put all his energy into it. He revived Governors Ball and made it exciting again. Hopefully next year the festival will follow suit and have a headliner that people would love to see.
The rap duo Rae Sremmurd also performed at the festival. Unfortunately for Slim Jimmy, he suffered a fall, and a large piece of glass lodged in his leg. He was taken to a nearby hospital while Swae Lee finished up the performance.
