Again we have an incident where Blacks are racially profiled at a public pool. The previous incident in Mckinney, Texas happened on June 5th, and this incident happened on June 9th. These two incidents have the same premise that Blacks are a target aside from the Whites that were also present at both public pools. In this situation, a Black Family was racially profiled at Fairfield Aquatic Center, located in Ohio, because a Teen did not have on swim trunks. The Caretaker of the group, Krystal Dixon 33, who is six months pregnant, went to get swim trunks for the Teen. When she came back, he wasn’t allowed entry back into the public pool. My question is where is the justification in that? Being racially targeted can cause anyone frustration, especially in a place that is supposed to be welcome to everyone in the community. I understand that certain pools have rules, so they attempted to do the right thing by going to get the swim trunks.
From the video of the incident, I saw that the staff was White, as well as the Officers and the majority of the people at the pool. When the police arrived, they told the Krystal Dixon to leave. One of the Officers asked her if she had any ID. She replied no, and that’s when things went left. The Officer got closer to her, asked what her name was, and she stepped back. He touched her, and she was clearly upset. Then he proceeded to grab her arm. One of the Teens, which I believe was her daughter, told the Officer to get off of her Mom. The video presumes to the Officers arresting a 12-year-old girl, a 15-year-old girl, Krystal Dixon, and from what it looked like, the 15-year-old boy that did not have on swim trunks. These officers used excessive force that was not necessary. In my opinion, it seems like the family felt like they didn’t deserve to be arrested. There were reports that the 12-year-old girl had a fractured jaw and broken ribs, but the cops said that was not confirmed.
