The people of Mexico have been insulted numerous times by President Donald Trump since his campaign began. He called Mexican immigrants criminals and proposed that Mexico pay for a wall to keep them out of the US. One Mexican businessman has taken it upon himself to strike back at Trump with one of the pettiest moves we’ve ever seen.
Corporate lawyer Antonio Battaglia is taking up the task of producing Trump brand toilet paper, in reaction to the president’s disparaging remarks. The brand’s slogans are “Softness without borders” and “This is the wall that, yes, we will pay for.” The mock up of the packaging boasts “puros rollos,” which can be translated into either “pure rolls” or “pure nonsense” in Spanish.
Battaglia was able to secure the Trump name for branding due to an oversight by Trump’s organization. According to the NY Daily News:
Mexico’s Institute of Industrial Property has granted Trump’s company trademarks on his name in sectors such as construction, hotels, tourism, real estate and financial services. But the Trump Organization didn’t bother to cover what’s referred to in Spanish as “hygenic paper,” and Battaglia’s trademark for Trump toilet paper was approved in October 2015, according to the institute’s records.
Battaglia will start with an initial small run of the toilet paper worth $21,400 (enough to fill two cargo trucks). Thirty percent of proceeds will go towards programs that help migrants.
