Touhy-Herbert Park is the scene of an annual Father’s Day BBQ on the West Side of Chicago. During the day, families gather in the park to grill, play games and enjoy each other. However, when night falls, an after party-of-sorts pops off. The park is on Black Disciples’ turf, but due to a gang truce, members of the Gangster Stones, Traveling Vice Lords, Four Corner Hustlers, Gangster Disciples and the Black Disciples throw big parties, known as “fefes” in the park.
This year’s Father’s Day BBQ after party grew out of control. More than 1,000 gathered in the park for a raucous rumpus that disturbed neighbors. DNA Info details:
The footage of the post-Father’s Day party, captured in photos and on video just two blocks west of the United Center, shows hundreds of people crowding the streets, drinking, smoking and at times, fighting. As music is blasted over car stereos, women illuminated with floodlights dance on the hood of cars, and the blue lights of police squad cars flash in the background.
Twenty-five squad cars showed up on the scene, but even that was not enough to break the party up. The police were simply outnumbered. Eventually, the party did end in the wee hours of Monday morning.
