A well maintained and clean home feels comfortable, enjoyable and becomes a safe space for the people living inside. No one would like for their family to be exposed to an unhygienic living environment, thus housekeeping is important to keep one’s family healthy and happy.
But oftentimes we don’t have hours to spend on just cleaning and organizing the house and we can all go for some quick yet effective housekeeping tips. The secret is to develop a good cleaning strategy and clean the house systematically, which makes cleaning a breeze!
We’ve put together some tried and tested housekeeping tips for you to help you save time and get cleaning done quickly yet effectively:
1. Start With a Soak
Bathtubs, sinks and toilets usually have buildups that need some time to clean off. A good practice is to spray them with a cleaner and let it soak while you perform other tasks around the house. This will save you time on rubbing and scrubbing excessively and spare more time for other important tasks. A good 10-20 minutes soak is good enough to soften the buildup and you can easily wipe it off. Make sure you use soft cleaners and avoid concentrated ones as they can damage the material of tubs if left on for too long. It’s all about playing smart!
2. Carry a Basket While Cleaning
Whether it’s kids leaving toys all over the house or pets messing things up as they run around the house, going room to room cleaning will require you to put things in their appropriate place. Which is why it’s always a good idea to carry a basket along while cleaning. As you go through different rooms, collect the items and once all the rooms are done you can put the items in the basket in their respective places. That saves time on going back and forth carrying items and wasting time.
3. Ceiling Fans
Why need a hack for cleaning something as simple as ceiling fans, you might wonder. But oftentimes the brushes or clothes we use to dust off cleaning fans make the dust fall off to the floor and then we have to clean the floor. But this practice has become so common we often don’t think of using a better way to clean the fans. Use old pillow cases to cover the blades of the fan and wipe the blade as you pull the case off. This will prevent the dust from falling onto the floor and you can just shake the pillowcases in a trash can and wash them for later use!
4. Carry a Cleaning Bin
Different rooms have different cleaning needs and need a different cleaning supply. Sometimes you might need to wear gloves, need old rags to wipe off things, or brushes for dusting and so on. Instead of going back and forth to get a different cleaning supply everytime you go to clean a room, carry a medium sized bin that has all the cleaning supplies you might need for each room. This will save you a lot of time on grabbing new supplies everytime you clean a different room.
5. Save Vacuuming for Last
You might find or create some dust bunnies after you clean a room and having to vacuum each room twice will be a headache if you start with vacuuming each room. Which is why you should keep vacuuming for last in order to avoid having to do it twice and sweep once everything is cleaned and all the dust bunnies have been cleaned off. Keep this tip in mind and you’ll thank us later!
