Some fans hate to see their favorite pro athletes move to another team. NO fans take kindly to their entire team leaving town. This is the potential plight on the horizon that fans of the Oakland Raiders. “Top lieutenants” from the organization have reportedly met with officials in San Antonio, TX to discuss possibly relocating the franchise from The Bay Area.
The teams home stadium seems to be the point of contention. The Raiders have a year left on their lease at Oc.O Coliseum. Team owner, Mark Davis wants to tear down the stadium and build a “small, intimate” venue where he can honor his father, Al Davis, the late, legendary Raiders’ owner for decades, with a statue out front. These plans are thwarted by the MLB’s Oakland Athletics’ intentions. The A’s have recently signed a 10 year lease at the stadium.
Flanked by his colleagues, Davis toured the Raiders’ would-be temporary home, the Alamodome during a three day visit starting on July 18th. The league claims ignorance on the matter. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said, “We don’t have any information about it, so there is no reason for us to comment. We have received no applications from any of our teams to relocate at this point, so there is nothing for us to respond to.” The league will begin taking applications at the conclusion of this year’s upcoming season. The silver and black faithful undoubtedly wait with bated breath.
