It’s not a good time to be a shady smoke shop in Baton Rogue. In recent days, seven area smoke shops have been raided for suspicious activities. If you are unfamiliar, a smoke shop is place that sells various smokeable items such as cigars, cigarettes and hookah. They also tend to sell bongs, bowls and other apparatuses to smoke marijuana out of under the auspices of being for tobacco use. Since they sell these items, they are targets for police. It is a common rule that no illegal activity be discussed in the shops. The raids raked in a total of ten arrests. However, the latest shop to be raided, known as Mr. Happy’s novelty and smoke shop got a surprise on top of the raid when a delivery of synthetic marijuana arrived.
The Delta Narcotics Task Force and Baker Police Department were investigating Mr. Happy’s on Wednesday after the other raids. The owners of the smoke shop, Dustin Graham and Justin Marcantel had been arrested on Tuesday during an initial raid. As “The Boys” searched the premises, a package arrived that contained 1,500 packets of synthetic marijuana.
21 Firearms were also discovered in the smoke shop. According to reports, “Graham was charged with distribution/manufacturing schedule I drugs, and possession of a firearm with drugs present. Marcantel was charged with distribution/manufacturing schedule I drugs. They are both being held in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on $50,000 bonds.”
