The police brutality and instances of excessive force continues. Since the slaying of Eric Garner in July, police across the nation have been killing unarmed civilians in cold blood. The latest is yet another child. This time in Cleveland (again) at the hands of one of the officers in the Cleveland Division of Police. Officer Tim Loehmann took the life of 12-year-old Tamir Rice. He is now under investigation by a team of Cleveland’s use of deadly force team comprised of “homicide detectives, several internal units and city and Cuyahoga County prosecutors” for the November 22nd killing outside of a local recreation center.
Officer Loehmann’s performance is being brought to the forefront now, especially his use of a firearm. The officer accused of killing Tamir Rice was said to be “weepy” and “distracted” during his firearms qualification training by the Independence Police Department. Deputy Chief Jim Polack is on the record as saying, “He could not follow simple directions, could not communicate clear thoughts nor recollections, and his handgun performance was dismal.” He also said, “I do not believe time, nor training, will be able to change or correct the deficiencies.”
Yet, Officer Loehmann was ready to shoot on that fateful November day when he took the life of 12-year-old Tamir Rice. More developments are coming. As it stands, the police can do whatever they want to whomever they want to do it to.
