The Ferguson Movement has gained steam in recent days with a St. Louis grand jury deciding to not charge Darren Wilson with the slaying of Mike Brown. It gained even more momentum when a New York City grand jury decided not indict any NYPD officers for killing Eric Garner with a choke hold. People have been taking to the streets to show their disgust with police departments around the nation for the unjust killings of unarmed people stemming from Garner’s death this summer. There’s a new name to add to the list. His name is Rumain Brisbon and he was killed by police in Phoenix.
Thursday night, protesters took to the Phoenix police headquarters demanding the name of the officer who killed Rumain Brisbon. Upset family and friends claim the man was killed as he tried to deliver dinner to his children on Tuesday night. Officers came into contact with Brisbon when someone called reporting a Black man in an SUV selling drugs in their neighborhood. Officers ran the license plate number and and saw that the truck belonged to a resident whom they were already investigating for loud music.
The officers approached the SUV and the driver, Rumain Brisbon got out. Allegedly, when officers told him to show his hands, he reached for his waistband. The officer drew his gun and Brisbon ran. The officer chased him down and a struggle ensued. The officer said he felt a gun in his waistband and shot him twice killing him. What the officer felt was his pain pills. They also claim that Brisbon had an “unspecified weapon” and some marijuana on him as well.
