Outraged citizens across the nation are railing against the system. Every day, we see a new report of of a new protest in response to the many police killings of unarmed people stemming from the summer. Under the banner of “Ferguson” and “I Can’t Breathe” civilians are showing their disgust with law enforcement who continue to be let off the hook for killing innocent people. While this may seem like a Black problem, Don Diva has reported on young, unarmed White men who have been shot down by police. However, there is one police killing that has slipped under the radar. That would be the killing of a Native American man named Corey Kanosh.
Corey was a member of the Paiute Tribe in Utah and his story has gotten virtually no national attention. He was killed by an officer in the Millard County Sheriff’s Department after being mistaken for a car thief after a car was reported stolen from the Kanosh Paiute Indian Reservation. Police claim that Corey was belligerent and tried to fight off the police trying to arrest him.
Corey’s family is in the process of trying to press charges against the police department, but they have been able to raise little money. They explain, “The hold up on progressing has been due to lack of money to fund the oh so dreaded legal process. We need your help. Please help us on our way to get this case back up and ready. It’s time to take on the unwilling non-cooperative Millard County Sheriffs Department.”
