The NYPD just can’t seem to get out of hot water. We all know about the protests surrounding the killing of Eric Garner at the hands of Staten Island police. They also came under scrutiny for turning their backs on New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on multiple occasions because they blame him for two NYPD officers being killed randomly by a deranged man recently. Besides all that, the NYPD has had to pay $428 million in lawsuits. This is evidence of a corrupt police force. Former NYPD narcotics detective, Stephen Anderson shocked many with his recent testimony, telling the world that it is common practice for the NYPD to plant drugs on innocent people to meet quotas.
Anderson is testifying under cooperation with prosecutors after being busted for “flaking,” the practice of planting cocaine on innocent people. He planted coke on four men in a Queens bar in 2008 to help fellow officer, Henry Tavarez meet his arrest quota. Tavarez hadn’t been making many arrest and feared being sent back to regular patrol from the narcotics unit. “I had decided to give him [Tavarez] the drugs to help him out so that he could say he had a buy,” said Anderson in court.
Anderson had made two legit arrests in the bar, but did not want to give them to Tavarez because he had his own quotas to meet.
When asked if he had seen the practice of “flaking” often during his tenure as a narcotics officer, Anderson replied, “Yes, multiple times.”
His testimony covered a culture of false arrests in Brooklyn and Queens and led to the arrest of eight NYPD officers.
