Tensions between police and the public seem to be building. More and more, random gunmen are coming out of the woodwork attacking police officers in brazen attacks. There was the December 20th murder of two NYPD officers at the hands of a deranged man from out of state. A police officer was killed in Florida as he responded to a disturbance. There is another case to add to these. This time, it happened to officers serving the infamous LAPD.
Monday, a man fired a rifle at two LAPD officers as they sat in their patrol car. It is reported that two men were involved in the shooting. One of the suspects has been apprehended according to LAPD personnel. His partner is still at large.
Some try to tie these attacks to the growing Ferguson and “I Can’t Breathe” movements which have led protests nationwide in response to the killings of unarmed people at the hands of trigger happy police officers. The protesters deny any involvement with the assailants, though their motives may have, indeed, been based on the current climate in the nation surrounding the issue.
It would make sense that someone in the Los Angeles area would be outraged with the LAPD. The autopsy of Ezell Ford, the unarmed, mentally ill man killed by LAPD officers in August was just released. Ford’s death happened around the same time of the deaths of Mike Brown in Ferguson and John Crawford in a Beavercreek, OH Wal-Mart.
Nevertheless, none of the protesters have called for blood. These mad men with guns running down on the police are working on their own from the looks of things.
