BET’s Mancave Is Just What We Needed!

For the past few years, in this very magazine, we have been reminding men to be men in our Don’s Corner column. We have given advice on money, relationships, women, and just being men in general. The Don’s Corner was created to counterbalance the overload of estrogen in today’s society. In the climate of #Metoo, and hybrids, Men needed a place where men could be, well…men. Well, it seems like we were on to something…

BET has created a new show that is in the vein of the Don’s Corner, a show where men can be men, and it is a hit! Executive produced by Steve Harvey, and created by Jeff Johnson, who is more known for his honest political commentary,  the show Mancave is a space for men to be men. With anchored cast members, R&B singer Tank, comic Gerald “Slink” Johnson, and record producer Marcos “Kosine” Palacios of Da Internz, the show is raw, honest, and entertaining. What gives the show a refreshing twist is the rotating special guest that come on the show every week. Fabolous and Charlamagne Tha God have both been guests, and offered their distinct views to the Mancave, as well as Demetrius Shipp Jr and Lamar Odom. However, the cast members of the show do a very good job of entertaining and informing, as well as being straight up raw without the need of special guests. Slink is the resident savage (and he goes HARD), Tank is the resident freak, Kosine is the young bull, and Jeff Johnson is the voice of reason to balance everything out. The diverse personalities mesh well, with no one trying to outshine the other, and it seems as if they learn just as much as they teach. Despite each cast member achieving their own level of notoriety and success in their own right, prior to the show, no one seems pretentious. Everyone has a down-to-earth vibe that makes the show very relatable to the common man.

Just last year, I wrote an article about how Black Men Have No Allies, because no one seemed to care about us and what we go through as men. No one seemed to be there to pick us up, and help us through our journey called life. Although Mancave is only a 30-minute show, for those 30 minutes, men – REAL men – are represented. For that, Mancave is Don’s Corner approved. Tune in every Thursday on BET at 10:30 p.m.
