These days, the United States is experiencing a period where the political climate is bursting through the thermometer. Throughout its history, hip-hop has served as a voice for marginalized voices when it comes to politics and social issues. However, today, most emcees are more focused on balling out and being promiscuous, which is their right. Not everyone is obligated to speak up on certain issues. However, one legend is taking matters into his own hands and screaming on the powers-that-be. That legend is Ice Cube, who has taken a break from producing blockbuster films and his Big 3 basketball league to get back to his roots and spit some bars.
Today, Cube has released his tenth solo album, Everythangs Corrupt. The Cali veteran has brought us 16 tracks on this new project with Cube handling the majority of the bar work. The only feature on the album comes from fellow West Coast legend Too $hort. According to HotNewHipHop:
Everythangs Corrupt takes the aesthetics from AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted and reapplies them to the present. Truth be told, not much has changed in the Black community since the early 90’s. That’s why several of the narratives that made Cube a prophetic rapper still hold weight on his current venture. Although Cube has spent time starring in family movies, building a basketball league, and steering his son down the right path, he hasn’t lost an ounce of his lyrical ability.
