In 1992, Carlton Brown, Keith Perrin, J. Alexander Martin and Daymond John started selling hats in Hollis for a new line they called, FUBU, an acronym for “For Us By Us.” From there, thanks mainly to the love of the hip-hop community, the line exploded on the international scene. FUBU hats, tees, jerseys and other clothing items were the apparel of choice for a host of fashion-forward connoisseurs.

Things died down, but the FUBU movement continues to move. Their shirts and sneakers can be found in the aisles of Walmart and co-founder, Daymond John is one of the stars of ABC’s popular Shark Tank series. Recently, FUBU announced a new venture outside of the realm of clothing. They have started producing their Natural Style for FUBU haircare product line. The line was made in an attempt to promote healthy hair among African-American men and women with textures ranging from natural to permed. Available for women are items such as the women’s hair elongator, gentle shampoo, leave-in conditioner, deep conditioner/co-wash and more. For men, there are the 3-in-1 oil moisturizer, the 3-in-1 cleansing wash and pomade. The key ingredient in the Natural Style products is Miracle9Complex, a combination of various oils like virgin olive, tea tree and argon which seals the moisture in hair.

Natural Style hair products will be available at independent beauty supply stores as well as Walgreens and Duane Reed locations.
