Kerry Washington of Scandal
This is a hot show. And it gets a lot of heat. A lot of people are in their feelings about this “beautiful black woman,” being the mistress of this powerful white man. You got all kinds of conspiracy theorists giving their opinions as to why this is not a good look for Black Women. Why are women praising being a mistress to a white man? Women who like this show has low self esteem, this is disgusting, this is nothing but modern day slavery. I mean the opinions and comments are over the top and interesting to say the very least. To me its just a show, its entertainment. I don’t see the subliminal message. Mistresses exist as well as interracial dating. And I agree with Kerry’s reasoning for not doing the show had Fitz been cast as a Black President. America is a sensitive catty place. Stupid accusations about Kerry and President Obama would have been made had Fitz been African-American. It would have had Michelle all in her feelings for nothing. It would have been uncomfortable for America as a whole to watch Scandal had Fitz been black and you know it. But that’s just my opinon. Here’s what Kerry Washington had to say:
“I was a little concerned because [the character has] a scandalous relationship with the [occupant of the] White House,” she told the magazine. “I thought, ‘If the president on the show is Black, I will not do the show.’ Because to me, it was too important a moment. I didn’t want to do anything that compromised my relationship with the [President] or that made it seem like I had an insider view on the Obama presidency. I thought that would be so disrespectful and so against all the work that I had done.”
