Now, the man writing this has seen a wedding reception at a Red Lobster one time and thought that was the tip of the iceberg. Apparently it is not. Since 2011, due to a overwhelming demand , fast food staple, MacDonald’s has implemented a wedding party program to the menu in Hong Kong. That’s right, soon-to-be Chinese brides and grooms have intense desire to exchange nuptials in Mickey D’s and the brand has made that possible. There are now 15 restaurants offering a McWedding. This is an increase from three that offered weddings previously.
There are two options available: the bargain deal and (of course) the deluxe package. For a cool $1,290, couples can cop the deluxe package which includes accommodations for 50 guests for two hours at the venue, balloon-themed wedding rings and a bridal bouquet. Naturally, the “wedding cake” is a huge display of apple pies as opposed to the traditional, multi-tiered cakes we’re used to.
According to a spokesperson, a lot of people choose Mickey D’s as their wedding venue for romantic reasons because many of them actually met there.
Will this wave hit the United States? Only time will tell.
